Abstract

Using student coursework and feedback from an introductory chemistry course for engineering students, we were able to develop new materials designed to focus on improving the issues that students self-identify as problematic. In this way, our dialogue continues between instructors and students over multiple semesters.

 

Bios

Brian Christopher Tidbury Gilbert

Brian is an undergraduate student at the University of Calgary in the concurrent BSc Natural Sciences and BEd program.

 

Nicole Sandblom

Nicole Sandblom is a senior instructor in the Department of Chemistry and the Natural Sciences program.  She teaches large-enrollment chemistry courses and the Faculty of Science writing course. Her interests include incorporating active learning strategies in the classroom and supporting student engagement and success in first year.

 

Amanda Musgrove-Richer

Amanda is an Instructor in the Chemistry Department at U of C. She specializes in teaching analytical chemistry and in teaching chemistry to engineering students.
